For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to start my own magazine. I love to collect magazines and study and analyze them. I always wondered what the process of creating a magazine was, how it’s designed, how stories are chosen and everything in between.

In college, I wanted to take a magazine course to learn more about the process, but could never fit it into my schedule. When I came to USC for grad school, I didn’t think about it anymore. Fortunately, I came across J563D—Magazine Production and Internal Communications in the course catalog. It was new class created to produce the college’s alumni magazine, InterCom. Unfortunately, the class was closed. Luckily, after getting in contact with Professor Sisk, I was able to get into the class.

Being a part of this class has given me the insight I wanted into the production aspect of a magazine. I want now, more than ever, to start my magazine and I feel that I have a good starting point as far as the creative process. I’m excited that we are pioneers in this journey and can’t wait to see the finished product.
